+ pic of the day +

I thought it was so awesome that after Michelle & Jordan kissed at the end of their of beautiful ceremony, Michelle decided to throw up the peace sign for us. That means she is super happy, right?! I think so. I thought it was a beautiful moment captured.

Took this beautiful portrait of them out in Kauai, HI.

+ Patti’s Yummy Palette +

If you love food & fashion, you have to go to my friend Patti’s blog. She resides out here in LA and has been to many of the eateries our city has to offer. Her product shots alone make me jealous & hungry every time I’m on her blog. I did these quick promo shots of her a little while ago.

We started out in the cozy village of Larchmont and got a few delish cupcakes at Crumbs. She did a little shopping at Luxe and Kicks Sole Provider too.

After that, we went to one of my all time fav spots. If you haven’t gone to Milk, you’re missing out. I highly recommend their food and of course the endless list of desserts. It was a fun shoot indeed! I feel that sooner or later, we’re going to see Patti on TV hosting her own food & travel show.

Check her blog out here!

+ working with jules +

Wrapped up a shoot for Jules Bianchi’s workshop yesterday. I feel it’s always inspiring and empowering to watch professionals at work and observe their skills. Jules was teaching about 20 people yesterday, and when you’re shooting on location, it can be a challenge. What added to it was the fact that it rained also, but Jules was able to adapt and think fast. She found the best spots to shoot at inside, and also did a portion of the shoot out in the rain. Jules was amazing and it was an honor to be part of her workshop.

If you’re a photographer that wants to learn about portraiture, lighting, and wedding photography, you should definitely check it out. I must have to admit it was pretty crazy to have that many lenses pointed at me from all my fellow photags. They must have been thinking how lame of a model I was. Ah well. Good times!

+ growing up +

I was laughing it up with my friends this past week as I came across an old dingy folder filled with tons of papers. As I scanned through the clutter, I was able to revisit the beginning of my many journeys.

I was in college, or just about to graduate, and stood at a crossroad of where I was going not only as an artist, but overall as an individual. I believe I was in search of identity, and came across so many obstacles in the process.

So how did I do it? FOCUS. Now with that one word came lots of things that I found in this folder. There were papers full of quotes, stories, biographies, and images with one purpose: To keep me focused on the prize. It’s a hard thing to commit to your dreams. With day jobs, friends & family, bills, the growing speed of technology, and not to mention the competition out there, it’s easy to get discouraged. I say don’t stress! Live for today, and see it as an opportunity to grow as an artist.

For me, I loved having tons of references from other artists to inspire me. Motivation should never be the issue, so I encourage you to do whatever you need to do to get around the obstacles that are holding you back in life.

I posted the image above because I was looking at it, and I was just diggin it. If I look back several years, I can remember looking at photos similar to this, and wishing I would be able to create imagery like this. In the end, what is most important as an artist is that you’re shooting what you love.

I want my pictures to have life. It’s that simple, and we all know when we look at certain images, you either feel it, or you don’t. I feel like it’s important to ask yourself that same question when you look at your own work. Are you excited about it?

+ feature on utterly engaged +

Lucia Dinh from Utterly Engaged contacted me recently to feature some of my lifestyle photos in their e-zine. She felt I took a fresh approach towards my photography and how I directed my shoots. I’m actually really happy that she pointed it out. We all have visuals in our head regarding how we want to approach a project. I personally wanted to take my style up a notch and do different things in the wedding arena. For me, it was merging different worlds of photography together and creating something original, but still had that authenticity between 2 people. For a while I was wondering if I was executing my vision at all. With the support of all my friends and fams, people from mywedding.com in the previous post, and the awesome people at Utterly Engaged, I know my work is taking steps forward.

What I think is most important in the journey, especially in the photography one, is that it takes time. Don’t compare yourself to everyone. It’ll get you nowhere but in a puddle of self doubt. Focus on growing, and you’ll get to where you want to be.

+ mywedding.com rocks! +

The awesome people at mywedding.com decided to feature us on their full page winter AD in the last issue of Instyle Weddings. It’s the most amazing feeling to have their support in my photography journey. I urge everyone to go on their site for the latest trends and anything possible to help you for your big day!

Follow mywedding.com on Twitter! They used one of my Mammoth shots as their wallpaper. Sweet!

+ life is short +

It’s ironic how things have a way of finding their way back to you. I remember getting this book as a gift in high school. I can look back now and hear myself saying the pages in this book have nothing to do with my life.

Life went on, and 10 years later, it found it’s way back into my hands. I love this book because it totally reminds me that sometimes the only thing that holds us back from chasing our own dreams is ourselves.

We all have struggles whether it’s with relationships, our professional life, or our own personal goals. The pages in this book simplify the crazy thought patterns that go on in our heads to help us realize, that really…none of it matters.

I encourage everyone to think about what is truly important in the bigger picture. Are you missing out on life? Do you feel like you’re holding back?

This book can be a step towards the right direction to breaking free from all of your fears. It’s a new year!

+ Happy New Year! +

Everyone have an awesome new year and be safe!
