Okay so my blog title doesn’t apply to everything, but with a little hard work, this is a perfect example of preparation meeting opportunity. Marie is a super talented musician in the industry who a while back was like any artist. She wanted her beautiful voice to be heard throughout the world, but how would she do it. The photography industry is already so difficult to break through. I could only imagine how much of a challenge it would be to shatter the wall holding her back from her musical dreams.
She decided to take matters into her own hands and tape herself doing some of her favorite cover pieces. After she performed her version of Umbrella by Rihanna, the rest is history.
As you can see, Marie has a voice that’s so smooth and beautiful she can take any song and make it her own. I’m a big fan of her work. You can hear her jams from her first album by clicking here.

So back to my story. I decided to head on over to MYSPACE and send her an email one day asking her to shoot. I sent her some of my work along with fun concepts of course to give her an idea of something different we could do. Did I think she would reply back? Maybe. I mean, she’s a really busy woman, so the chances of her giving up her free time to someone she hadn’t met yet were very slim. More importantly, and this goes for every person…I had nothing to lose by asking her. So a couple weeks went by, and she replied! I was like WHAT!?! Sweet!! Surprisingly, Marie is a little camera shy, but i knew I could persuade her to do the shoot. We were able to plan the whole thing out and these are just some of the awesome shots we produced together.

The Lesson of the day I would say is that you never want to have any regrets with anything. You always want to look back and say you gave it your all. Now this can be applicable to just about everything in our lives. How we deal with relationships, life, sports, and in this case what I love to do: photography.
In the world of love + weddings, you don’t want to regret not getting certain moments, so you have to be on our A game at all times. It’s all about the best story you can give them in the end.
But it also applies in this case to something as simple as asking someone to shoot. What if I had never decided to email Marie? I guess we’ll never have to find out. In the world of lifestyle and editorial, it was all about pre-planning everything from the hair & makeup, the location, the wardrobe, the props, and the scheduling. I felt like we really got an awesome shoot and that we gave it our all.

Thanks Marie for a great shoot! Her second album, Breathing Underwater, drops this September. Stay tuned!!
